[SCATTERED MEMORIES OF A MOMENTARY MOVEMENT 01] is based on the research and analysis of Le Corbusier’s Unité d’Habitation in Marseilles. A housing unit which in theory functions as a [social] structure - a mechanism that governs and shapes its inhabitants. The work is part of a larger-scale research project on which I have been working on together with the art historian Sonia d’Alto (IT) since 2017.
[SCATTERED MEMORIES OF A MOMENTARY MOVEMENT 01] is the first part of a three-part series of performative, 3D printed objects [souvenirs] based on the 3D scans of the artists’ movements within the publicly accessible areas “rues intérieures” / “interior streets” of the Unité d’Habitation.
[SCATTERED MEMORIES OF A MOMENTARY MOVEMENT 01] is part of the installation [NON] HUMAN ASSEMBLAGES UNFOLDING OVER TIME.
“[...] the reduction of the corridors to every third floor. These corridors were repurposed by Corbusier to have dual functions of not only a circulation space, but a new communal space for the neighbors to gather and socialize. The “rue intérieur” or interior street, added to the spatial complexity of the Corbusierhaus, as well as redefine the social parameters of a public circulation space.” [www.archdaily.com]
“L’Unité est desservie par 5 rues intérieures superposees. A mi-hauteur du bâtiment (niveau 7 et 8) se trouve la rue marchande du ravitaillement (services communs), comportant: poissonnerie, charcuterie, boucherie, épicerie, vins, crèmerie, boulangerie, patisserie, fruits, légumes et plats cuisinés; un service de livraison dans les appartements; un restaurant, salon de thé, snack bar, permettant de prendre des répas. Des boutiques: salon de lavage, repassage, pressing et teinturerie, droguerie, coiffeur, et en plus un bureau de poste auxiliaire, tabacs, journaux, librairie et depot de pharmacie.
